8U Girls
#GTG Jamborees
Grow the Game
Objective: Growth of diversity within hockey by focusing on retention of female players.
Target: Females currently consist of 25% of our skaters who are 8U and who have an attrition rate at a greater percentage than their male counterparts as they progress in hockey.
Plan: Regional Girls 8U Jamborees
Why: Providing girls only events builds a community where the girls can see and feel like they are not a minority. Many associations either do not have enough girls to offer girls only teams or associations only provide youth teams at the 8U age.
Format: Regional Jamboree(s), October thru February, where whole association teams, or individual girls register to participate.
The goal is to facilitate minimal travel, so spread out your locations..
Grant: $300 per Jamboree, which would cover ice, referees and miscellaneous event supplies.
Jamboree: Cross ice or ½ ice games. Minimum 1 hour of ice and referees plus a *give-away at the end, *could be ice cream, or head-band or window decal etc. Social time in the lobby for girls and parents after games.
