Video: From Child's View, Adults Find Full-Ice No Fun
By USA Hockey
Ever wonder how a full-sized sheet of ice looks through a child's eyes? USA Hockey put adult players on a hockey rink scaled to simulate what a child experiences when they play full-ice hockey. The results weren't pretty, but they were captured in a new video released last week. Ken Martel, technical director of USA Hockey's American Development Model took it all in and sat down for the following Q-and-A on the topic.
Q: What was the inspiration for building the up-scaled hockey rink at the Pond Hockey Championships this year?
Martel: As adults, it's hard to imagine or remember what it was really like trying to play the game on a full-sized ice sheet. And for as much as we try to explain the benefits of cross-ice hockey for skill development and fun among young players, there's nothing that conveys that message better than having adults actually experience the challenges of this up-scaled full-ice environment for themselves. So that was our inspiration - and it says something that we needed an eight-acre lake to do it.

Hockey Hall of Fame

The Wisconsin Hockey Hall of Fame was founded in 1975 and is housed in the Eagle River Arena. The Wisconsin Hockey Hall of Fame was established to honor outstanding individuals responsible for the development and success of amateur hockey in Wisconsin. The hall has outgrown it's space and is planning an expansion. Please consider making a donation to help with expansion. Any donation to the project is tax deductible.

“The Wisconsin Hockey Hall of Fame plays a major role in keeping the stories alive of hockey in our state. The individual achievements of players, teams, builders, volunteers, coaches and supporters of Wisconsin’s great history and success in hockey, are showcased in the hall of Fame.

Join me in helping to improve and expand our facility in Eagle River “
- Jeff Sauer (2004 Inductee)

Youth Hockey

This is a great article about youth hockey the ADM and USA Hockey.  There has been a lot of discussion, praise and criticism of the ADM, but I think this article gives some good perspective to the process and thinking behind it.
